RIVERS AND FEATHERS AUTHOR WINS VIRGINIA WRITING AWARDS.

The Virginia Outdoor Writers Association, in its 2023 Excellence in Craft Showcase, has recognized columns by Brookes Outdoors author Peter Brookes in two categories.Brookes was honored in the Outstanding Blog category for his piece “Five Reasons to Give a Rabbit a Run,” which appeared on the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources blog. The post chronicled the thrill of rabbit tracking and hunting in Virginia.He was also recognized in the Outstanding Feature category for “The Shop That Time Forgot,” a biographical magazine feature he wrote for Virginia Wildlife in 2022. The piece recounted the life of local icon, 89-year-old Phil Evans, who has been running a rod and reel repair service for nearly 40 years.Brookes has now won 11 Excellence-in-Craft outdoor writing awards over the last 5 years.The Virginia Outdoor Writers Association, founded in 2016 in Winchester, Va., is a coalition of writers, photographers, and video/film producers who inform through various media.
