An Introduction to Product Reviews with Patrick Hunter
My name is Patrick Hunter, and I’m honored to be leading the charge on product reviews for Rivers and Feathers. Born and raised in the Carolinas, I grew up in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains where my love for the outdoors took root. I grew up camping, canoeing, hunting and fishing anywhere I could between the mountains and the Lowcountry.
Today, not much has changed, I am still a lifelong outdoorsman and conservationist. My full time job is that of a professional engineer focusing on environmental, water and wastewater projects. My experience in environmental engineering fuels my desire for conservation and to protect the waters and wild places we all enjoy. In my free time I am passionate about writing, photographer, story telling and adventuring.
I live on the coast of South Carolina with my wife, daughter, and our black Lab, Huck Finn—who
rarely misses a day on the water or in the woods with me. My fly fishing obsession started at
Clemson University, when I took a leisure skills fly fishing class to get a break from engineering
school. That hobby has quickly spiraled into a lifelong pursuit of fish on the fly, both fresh and
saltwater. This pursuit has allowed me the opportunity to deep dive into fly tying, product
testing and general troubleshooting.
I’m a gearhead, and I always have been. I think being an engineer it comes with the territory. I
cannot help but bring a detailed, methodical approach to reviewing equipment and outdoor
products. Whether I’m casting a new fly rod, fishing a fly line or fly pattern, or field testing a
piece of equipment or apparel on a backcountry trip, my goal is to deliver honest, field-tested
reviews that anglers can trust. From flies to rods to reels, packs, tools, and even destination
travel and lodging—if it’s part of the fly fishing experience, I will tell you what I think and how it
can help you.

Our goal is to be both comprehensive and approachable, delivering insights that help readers
make informed decisions, no matter their skill level. At Rivers and Feathers, we recognize that
