“This was an opportunity of a lifetime for us. I truly feel we’ve made connections for life. The staff’s overwhelming kindness, attentiveness, and guidance made this retreat magic from start to finish. I left all my worries behind me when I hit the water and that is a feeling I will certainly cherish forever.” – Nov. 2023 Participant

“My CFR retreat experience was purely magical! It was sheet music put into words. ‘You Are My Sunshine’ is the song that perfectly describes the Casting for Recovery magic.” – Nov. 2023 Participant

“I was sharing with my family that there was nothing about this retreat that wasn’t 100% positive. It’s rare to be able to say that about any experience – especially one that lasts all weekend. I wouldn’t change anything about the weekend because it was perfect.” – Nov. 2023 Participant

“I can say one thing with near certainty. I don’t think anything will ever bring about the enormous healing I came home with from this weekend – spiritually, emotionally, mentally & physically, on all levels. Every activity and discussion, each person and the very location led to, not only the joy of fly fishing on Sunday, but to my healing despite this incurable disease. The CfR weekend fed my soul. It reminded me how naturally joy and meaning could return –stronger than my constant pain and incurable cancer which suddenly became insignificant. I came home unafraid and hope-filled, ready to live in the present instead of hopeless and fearful about my uncertain future. Pampered and empowered at the same time… How do you explain pampered and empowered at the same time!? The experiences were personal to each participant over the three days. How can the bonds we formed in such a short time last a lifetime? Answer: You are fortunate to be part of a Casting for Recovery retreat…I hope you truly know the good you are doing for others.” – Nov. 2023 Participant

Dear Mike,

I hope that you have a wonderful Thanksgiving week ahead. Even though our CfR weekend was a couple of weeks ago, I find myself reflecting on the incredible power of these retreats for our participants, staff, and sponsors like you! I’ve been waiting for our professional shots to come back so I can share with you a few images, and I’ve attached them below. Thank you for your generosity with the fly boxes and stickers. Our participants were incredibly excited (as you can see from picture #3!) to get a “starting point” to continue in their fly fishing journey. And hopefully you’ll have a few more folks checking out Rivers and Feathers, as we shared the website with everyone in our wrap-up letter.

I know that you are familiar with the mission of Casting for Recovery: provide free, weekend retreats that offer time and space for participants to find inspiration, discover renewed energy for life, and experience healing connections with other women and with nature. I wanted to share my gratitude for your kindness and thoughtfulness with the fly boxes — sharing the “secret” of the healing power of water and fly fishing is truly transformational for our participants — thank you for being a part of our weekend from afar!

In addition to a few images, I have also attached a thank you from staff and participants. I hope you will hear — in their words — the incredible impact that our retreats have.

Take care and have a lovely Thanksgiving,
Megan

Dear Mike,

I want to thank you for your thoughtful and generous gift of my first fly box, given to me a week or so ago at the Casting For Recovery Retreat in Helen GA. I hope that I will begin to add my own small wonders to this little box as time passes. I had such a wonderful experience learning how to fly fish, amongst the camaraderie of a great group of women! And I landed a beautiful trout to boot! First time fishing, on my fourth cast, no less!

Your gift to all of the participants was a heartwarming reminder of those in this sport who wish to share the delights of these experiences!

Thank you for your generosity.

Best,
Cynthia
